The Types
Fees that accompany a filing
The Commissioner's fees follow the Uniform Fee Schedule adopted by the Supreme Court of Virginia, effective January 1, 2023. Each Circuit Court sets the fees for its own Commissioner. The other figures below are still being confirmed with this office.
Commissioner's filing fees

Clerk filing fee
The Circuit Court Clerk's fee on a filing.

Filing Requirements
Preparing and sending a filing
- Forms must be signed by every fiduciary who has qualified before the Clerk.
- Submit forms in duplicate, along with the filing fees. Supporting documents do not need to be filed in duplicate.
- Please do not submit forms without the fees enclosed.
- One check per filing, made payable to the Chesterfield Commissioner of Accounts.
- Filings are accepted by mail or personal delivery only. Please do not send filings by email.
Filing Policies
Late, extensions, and amended filings
Late filing fee
$40
Charged on any submission received after a statutory deadline. This includes documents submitted without filing fees, and incomplete filings.
Extensions
30 days
A single initial thirty day extension is granted liberally on request. Requests beyond thirty days from the original due date are not generally approved. Those must be made in writing, must set out good cause, and are reviewed by the Commissioner.
Amended filings
$30
A revised or amended inventory or accounting filed before the initial filing is approved carries a $30 fee. One filed after approval requires the full fee for a new filing.
